CRS Rice Bowl Encounter Lent

Next weekend, March 23/24, we will be collecting for Operation Rice Bowl. You can either return your Filled Rice Bowl or you may use the special offertory envelope.

God of the journey,

You offered us the example of the Good Samaritan, who stops to heed the cries of a person in need. As we end our Lenten journey, may we continue to walk with our brothers and sisters around the world who are hungry, with those who must flee their homes because of war or lack of opportunity, and with all who need our comfort and compassion.

We pray that these, our Lenten sacrifices, may be an offering of solidarity and a promise of ongoing encounter with our one human family.

As good stewards of your many gifts, may we always remember to love our neighbors as ourselves. And wherever we feed the hungry, give drink to the thirsty or welcome the stranger, may we remember that we are encountering the Risen Christ.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.

CRS Rice Bowl is Catholic Relief Services’ Lenten faith-in-action program in the spiritual pillars of Lent: prayer, fasting and almsgiving. And, it’s an opportunity for us as a parish to come together as a community and reflect on what it means to live out our Gospel call to go out and encounter those most in need. More information is available at: CRSRiceBowl.org .

An excellent introduction and overview of Scripture from a Catholic perspective. This eight part series, presented by Jeff Cavins, covers salvation history from beginning to end. The complexity of the Bible is made accessible through an easy-to-follow narrative approach, and an ingenious color-coded Bible Timeline. As you begin to understand the Bible, you will develop a greater understanding for your faith, a deeper experience of the sacraments, and a closer relationship to Christ.

Attention Confirmation Parents

Please mark your calendars: Sacrament of Confirmation is scheduled for Saturday, 21 April 2018 at 10:00AM at the Cathedral of St. Patrick in Norwich. Rehearsal for the Sacrament of Confirmation is scheduled on Friday, 20 April 2018 at 6:30PM at Our Lady of Lourdes Church.

Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament

"In the Blessed Sacrament, You left us Your mercy; Your love deigned to arrange it so,  That, going through life, suffering and toil,  I might never doubt of Your goodness and mercy." (St. Maria Faustina of the Blessed Sacrament).  It's never too late to become a committed adorer.  The Chapel is open 7 days a week, 18 hours a day.  Surely you have one hour a week to spare to be with Jesus?  Currently we need adorers on Monday at 12PM and at 1PM and on Sunday at 9PM.  If you can't do one of these, pick another hour.  Make the time to be with Him.  For more information, please contact Bill & Barbara Souder

Ecumenical Bible Study

Did you know that Our Lady of Lourdes has a bible study that meets every Tuesday at 9:30 AM and has been doing this for 20 years? Anna McCance leads the Bible Study along with a small, but steadfast group of those wanting to worship the Lord through study of the holy scripture.

Asked about the longevity of this study, Anna says, “we have members from numerous faiths as well as OLOL members attending. We have formed friendships that have strengthened over the years as we share our faith, learn about God’s word, and support each other. It’s truly a rewarding experience and a blessing to have the opportunity to learn with friends.

What’s more is that over 20 years Anna estimates that they have covered the entire Bible two times. “We’re in our third round of the Bible and welcome anyone who wants to come and share with us.” If you are interested in joining the OLOL Ecumenical Bible Study call Anna at 860-464-6758.

Bereavement Support

A Bereavement Support Group meets at 6:30PM the first and third Tuesday of the month in Our Lady of Lourdes Rectory Meeting Room. Our next meeting is: March 20th. The Support Group is a small group voluntarily sharing their experiences in going through bereavement and discussing helpful spiritual guidance.

Annual Passion Play

On March 23rd and 24th, 2018 (Palm Sunday Weekend), St. Andrew Church, Colchester, will once again present the thirteenth production of the Life and Passion of Our Lord. Billed as “The Passion Play”, the production features a cast of over 120 adults and children from St. Andrew Parish as well several surrounding parishes. The play is presented in St. Andrew Church with live music provided by the St. Andrew Principal Choir. Costumes, sets, lighting, and sound are created by parishioners. This year, the play will be directed by Natalie Wood and will feature Jason Phillips as Jesus. Many of the performers have participated in all thirteen of the productions.

The Passion Play is the inspiration of St. Andrew Choir Director Colleen Puscas, whose long-standing dream was to write and produce a play about the story of Christ. In 2005, that wish was fulfilled when the first production of her Passion Play with original dialogue and music was performed. The Play has been repeated each year since, with hundreds crowding into the church each year to witness the performances. Additionally, each year the play is dramatically different from the previous years: at least one third of the play is entirely new material.

The play is performed Friday and Saturday night at 7:30 with doors opening at 7.There is no charge for admission; however, tickets are required since seating is limited to the capacity of St. Andrew Church located at 128 Norwich Ave. In order to help defray the costs of presenting the play, a free-will offering is appreciated. Tickets may be reserved by calling Teresa Dziatko at 860-295-8315. They are also available at Merciful Savior gift shop in Colchester, The Colchester Florist, and the St. Andrews church office.
